The curriculum is about international comparative social policy research and applying theoretical knowledge to empirical analysis by using statistical methods and data handling.

The programme begins with an intensive set of introductory courses in social sciences, statistics and methodology, followed by core lectures. The lectures covering the theoretical aspects of the programme are spread out over two terms and are complemented by group work and individual exercises related to the subjects studied in class. Most courses are held in G.D. Luxembourg, and the programme includes a three-month stay at KU Leuven in Belgium during which students receive further teaching and training.

About IMPALLA and its institutions

CEPS and KULeuven launched the IMPALLA master programme on August 19, 2002. In 2003, 2004 and 2005, three associate institutes joined: Université de Nancy (now Université de Lorraine), the newly established Uni.Lu, and Tilburg University respectively. IMPALLA was subject to thorough external evaluation of its standards a first time in 2006-2007, followed by accreditation by the NVAO (Nederlands-Vlaamse accreditatieorganisatie) in February 2009.
