Is this programme for you?

How do you track down the genes that can cause cancer? How can you build a molecular-scale motor? How can you make flexible organic solar cells? Chemistry is about a lot more than bubbling test tube in a lab. In our Chemistry programme, you will try to understand and control all the chemical processes that go on around you.

You like the idea of creating new molecules and materials and conducting research on chemical substances. You want to understand how atoms, molecules, and ions determine the world we live in. If you are comfortable with mathematics and physics, then our BSc in Chemistry is the perfect programme for you.

Why study Chemistry with the University of Groningen?

The BSc in Chemistry at the University of Groningen has been named "Top-Rate Programme" by Keuzgids.

Chemistry is home to the 2016 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry, Ben Feringa, who won the prize for his research on a light-driven molecular motor.

You have three choices of specialisations: Smart Materials, Chemistry of Life and Sustainable Chemistry and Energy.

The first year gives you a broad overview. You can then choose the area you want to focus on.

At the University of Groningen, teaching and research are closely linked. As a student in this programme, you will have access to our state-of-the-art lab, as well as studying alongside leading international researchers in a broad range of areas.
