Utrecht
Utrecht is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands with a population of 300,000. Utrecht has been the religious centre of the Netherlands since the 8th century and its city centre features many buildings and structures from its earliest origins onwards. The Oudegracht (old canal) is rightly famous as the central feature of the city and there are numerous bars and restaurants along its length.
Utrecht has the widest range of cultural activities of any Dutch city after Amsterdam and is aiming to be the European Capital of Culture in 2018. It is often regarded as the best student city in the Netherlands as over 10% of all its citizens are students.
Utrecht is a major business hub with companies such as Cap Gemini, Danone, Atos, Origin and HP Invent all having their head office there.
Due to its central position within the country it is an important transportation hub for the whole country and can be easily reached by train from Amsterdam (30 minutes) or directly from the UK via the Channel Tunnel.
