Maastricht

Maastricht is located in the far south of the Netherlands and is sandwiched between Belgium and Germany. It is closer to Brussels and Cologne than to Rotterdam or Amsterdam.

Maastricht is widely known as a centre of tradition, history and culture, and is popular with tourists for shopping and recreation. Maastricht is also home to some of the most international universities in the Netherlands. Consequently the city has a large international student population.

Maastricht is a small, compact city and is easily navigable on foot or by bike.

Famously, the Maastricht Treaty which created the European Union and established the Euro was signed here in February 1992.
