International Communication
Programme introduction
Modern economic and social developments such as globalisation, digitisation and sustainability have their repercussions on the communication branch. The communication profession is more strategic, fast-paced, versatile, more crucial and more international than ever. With the Master International Communication (MIC), we aim to educate a new generation of communication professionals, consultants and change agents, who can act as a key function within international organisations and companies.
Our students graduate with critical and creative thinking skills, analytical and specialised practical competences enabling them to make effective and responsible contributions to their organisation. Our 90-credit curriculum covers consultancy, intercultural communication & facilitation, innovative research methods, corporate communication, strategic brand management, leadership, sustainability communication and more.
Whether you are a talented and ambitious recent graduate or already work in communications, public relations, business, marketing or related fields, this master’s degree programme prepares you for managerial level positions as communicators in professional practice.
Course structure
In semester 1, the programme focuses on communication in two domains: ‘International Reputation Management’ and ‘International Brand Management’. The curriculum emphasizes the study of international organizations as communicators across various business and Not-for-Profit sectors. The programme includes cutting-edge critical approaches to intercultural facilitation and international communication in both teaching and research. Students learn from an international team that includes experienced researchers and committed practitioners. Teaching involves face-to face and directed learning.
In semester 2, the students have the chance to study abroad for a semester. However, there is also the option of taking specialisation courses here at Hanze UAS. We offer advanced courses around two central themes: ‘Sustainability Communication’ and ‘Digital Innovation’. Students will be offered the opportunity to participate in Innovation labs, putting theory and research to practice in close collaboration with the professional field. Furthermore, students will also be introduced to Futures Literacy Knowlab, an intensive programme that introduces new ways of looking at current day communication issues.
The third semester consists of a Graduation Project: a master’s dissertation. The master’s dissertation is a consultancy-based project, which allows student to become an expert in the area of their career interests as a communication professional. The students can carry out this project either at or for international organizations in a form of an internship and/or as a consultant, or remain in-house and carry out a project for an Innovation Lab. The thesis builds on all knowledge, practical experience and competences gained during the previous two semesters.
