Econometrics
SubjectEconomics, Mathematics
The Master's specialisation in Econometrics is intended for talented and motivated students with an interest in studying macroeconomic and microeconomic problems from a quantitative point of view. Given the quantitative nature of this Master’s programme, students are expected to have a strong interest in, and prior knowledge of statistics, mathematics, and econometrics.
Econometrics is internationally acknowledged as a field of study that is indispensable for modern decision-making in business and economics. Econometric models and methods are successfully applied in the daily practice of financial firms, central banks, statistical offices and international governmental organisations. This Master’s specialisation is aimed at teaching econometric theory and quantitative methods to perform empirical econometric analysis. The goal is to provide high-quality academic training to enable graduates to pursue careers in business and government, or to excel in science. Graduates are able to apply econometric techniques to complex, real-world problems. Furthermore, graduates are trained to develop and apply new models if required.
About the Programme
The goal of this master programme is to teach students modern advanced econometric techniques, like, for example, panel data analysis, treatment effects, and duration analysis. Contrary to many other econometric master programmes, this programme assumes that students already have a strong background in mathematics and statistics and also have sufficient understanding of basic econometric techniques. It is therefore very suited for students who want to extend their econometric knowledge beyond linear regression, instrument variable regression, limited dependent variables models and time series analysis.
Career Prospects
Students who have completed the master programme in Econometrics have excellent job prospects. More and more economic decisions require quantitative support. Therefore, there is a need for students with a strong quantitative background next to economic knowledge. This master programme provides students with the necessary skills to be successful in governmental organisations and in business. Graduates of the programme are also well-qualified to pursue a PhD degree and to become successful researchers in academia.
