Operations Research and Quantitative Logistics

The Master’s specialisation in Operations Research and Quantitative Logistics is open to students who have obtained sound academic training in econometrics, mathematics, physics, industrial, mechanical or systems engineering. The aim of the Master’s specialisation in Operations Research and Quantitative Logistics is to provide high-quality training to enable graduates to pursue careers in the logistics and transport sector or to excel in science.
Students will learn how to apply existing quantitative techniques and models to complex real-world logistic and transport problems. In addition, students will learn how to develop and apply new models for new problems.
Operations Research is the discipline of applying advanced quantitative methods to help make better decisions. It is characterised by its broad applicability and the wide variety of career opportunities it offers. The field of Quantitative Logistics studies the application of quantitative techniques to the design, planning and control of logistics systems.
Career Prospects
Graduates can easily secure employment in a wide range of positions within the logistics / transport sector, as well as in related sectors where their quantitative skills can be applied, such as the financial, IT and healthcare sectors. In particular, the acquired knowledge is very suitable for working with advanced decision-support systems.
At the moment career prospects are excellent and there is a wealth of starting positions. Examples of companies include ECT container terminals, Schiphol Airport, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Dutch Railways, Shell, Siemens, Netherlands Railways, TNT, KPN Telecom, Eneco energy company, as well as consultancy companies such as CapGemini, McKinsey, Ortec Consultants and TNO Research. Former graduates have also been able to pursue international careers, for example at NASA.
